A classic fit shirt is less form-fitting than a slim or
skinny fit. A classic fit shirt allows
the wearer to move freely while being comfortable. Usually the side seam on a classic fit shirt
or blouse is straight and the only dart, if there are any at all, is a bust
dart to make the shirt as straight as possible. The sleeves of a classic fit shirt will
typically be wider and more generous than a slim or skinny fit shirt or
blouse. Classic sleeves oftentimes have
a pleat or gathers at the sleeve cap or where the sleeve meets the shoulder, to
add more ease and fullness into the sleeve.
Classic sleeves also have 1-2 pleats, depending on the shirt, at the
cuff in order to reduce the fullness into the smaller circumference of a cuff. Kate Boggiano uses a classic fit when cutting
fine materials such as silk georgette or full body materials such as silk
charmeuse so that the wearer is able to get great movement out of the
fabric. Click here to read about our other fits.
